Sanity

As seen on the device next to the door that Bonnie enters through, the player's sanity is green.

Sanity is a gameplay mechanic of The Joy of Creation: Story Mode which appears in every memory except Attic, which substitutes the player going insane with the attic being set on fire by the tenth time the player flashes Ignited Golden Freddy.

Whenever the player loses sanity, all sounds will reverberate at an alarming rate.

The Joy of Creation: Story Mode[]

Bedroom[]

Sanity is a crucial gameplay mechanic in Bedroom. It functions similar to power from some Five Nights at Freddy's games, where the player cannot regain any sanity back, but must delay its drainage by keeping the light on as much as possible, and avoiding eye contact or any sudden encounters with the animatronics.

The player can check their current sanity by glancing at the device on the wall next to the main door, which starts out green, but goes to yellow, then orange, and finally red, as the sanity decreases. At 5AM the player will automatically drop to the insane state of sanity, no matter what sanity state the player currently was at. Looking back at the lamp at this point doesn't slow down your sanity decrease rate. This is the moment where sanity affects the player the most and can actually kill you. Once the player reaches the orange level of sanity, they will start to experience the following:

  1. The screen starts shaking, gradually becoming more intense. The level of shaking depends on current sanity level.
  2. The screen has a grain effect on it, slowly increasing in intensity.
  3. The surrounding environment starts losing color, turning black and white, with the player's vision being increasingly blurred. The player also starts seeing shadowy figures and starts to hear high pitched ringing.
  4. A dark, blood-like fluid will start to ooze out of the ceiling around the crib.
  5. Hallucinations of Shadow Ignited Freddy will appear in the room.
  6. The final effect of sanity occurs when you have no sanity left: your screen fades out, with you appearing in the middle of a forest, followed by Ignited Golden Freddy appearing and the words "COME BACK" flashing on your screen, causing a game over. This also happens when you get jump scared by Ignited Chica when your sanity is low, instead of simply stunning you.

Living Room[]

At 5 AM the room will turn red and the "Insanity Ambience" will start to play. The TVs and speakers will have the small white endoskeleton eyes, as well as the posters of the normal animatronics turning into their ignited selves.

If Chica jump scares the player, they will see from what appears to be The Creation's vision as walking to the corridor and nearby to the door, smashed it with his hook and then kills the player offscreen with the words "COME BACK".

Office[]

At 5 AM the room will turn red and the "Insanity Ambience" will start to play. The Chica poster, the calendar and the TVs will sport the small white endoskeleton eyes.

The clock above the double-door entrance, at random intervals, looks less burnt or more burnt, and another glitch/hallucination may occur where the paintings have appeared and then kills the player offscreen with the words "COME BACK".

Basement[]

In Phase 5, after all the messages on the monitor and before completing the objective, on the other hand when Endo R is about to attack, the basement is an Insanity version of itself, with all of The Fallen in the same room and having to navigate the room without dying from any of them.

At some point in Phase 2 (05), a hallucination appears with words reading "YOU ARE NOT SAFE" and "GO BACK" and then an Endo R "Blue" hallucination shows. If the player fails to return to the bathroom or complete the puzzle within a short amount of time, the room will turn red and the "Insanity Ambience" will play, and eventually Endo R "Blue" will kill the player. This will lead to a special cutscene where the player is burnt alive in the furnace, with all four of the Fallen animatronics looking down on them and then kills the player offscreen with the words "COME BACK".

Trivia[]

  • In Attic, when one of the lower floors is viewed through the camera during the second, fourth, sixth, and eight flash after all of the respective floors have gone ablaze, the camera is surrounded in the same hue as the player's vision when playing as Scott and Val, the only adult victim protagonists in the game, at 5 AM in their respective levels, as well as the penultimate phase of Basement where the player character is Michael.
  • The hue of the scenes where the player characters of Val and Scott during 5 AM, and Michael when being attacked by Endo R "Blue" in 05 and by Endo B "Angel" and Endo C "Mouth" in 02, have gone insane are also used for the following:
    • Those Nights at Rachel's: Hard Mode. Similarly, the entities within the location being changed to represent demonic contortions are modified as a form of calling card for the demons in the game.
      • The hue is also used for the eyes of the game's characters during Hard Mode.
    • The lamps in Basement that are used to indicate the phases being completed, or for stylistic reasons.
    • The bioluminescence of Endo F "Red".
    • The color-coded lamp above the doorway for Attic in the game's menu.
